Congratulations to Corey Freed, MCC's February 2024 Student-Athlete of the Month. The Wauconda High School graduate plays for our Men's Tennis team.

Cory is a returning player of our successful 2023 squad in which he finished 3rd in his flight at #5 singles. This year he has stepped up to be even more of a leader, organizing hit-arounds, coming in early for practice, and staying late. He is encouraging and supportive of his teammate and has been named as the 2024 team captain. Corey also sits on the Student-Athlete Council and has earned ISCC Academic All-Conference honors. He's on the path to graduating as an NJCAA Academic All-American. He plans to move on to earn his bachelor's degree in secondary education to teach and coach tennis.

Head Coach Jim Stockwell lauds, "Cory is the prototypical tennis player. Great mind, strong instincts, and loves playing the game. He is always smiling and has the short memory that is necessary. He is awesome to have in class as he is always engaged with the material, and his work is thorough and exceptional. He represents our team, our program, our sport, and our school with dignity and class. If I was going to clone a student tennis player, Cory would be my model."
