Email: jstockwell@mchenry.edu

Coach Stockwell was named NJCAA Region IV Tennis Coach of the Year in 2019! He coached the 2019-2020 Women's Tennis Team to the NJCAA Region IV Championship where the team earned a berth to the NJCAA National Tournament May 3-8. This marks the first time since 2002 that the team has qualified.

Coach Jim Stockwell has been engaged with tennis ever since first picking up a racket as a freshman in high school. During his time at Round Lake, he earned 3 varsity letters; as a doubles player as a sophomore (with a conference finals appearance) and later playing singles his junior and senior seasons (finishing with his career with a winning record).

His first year at College of Lake County was cut short due to injuries, and after a brief sabbatical, he returned to the court a bit older and wiser. Fueled by knowing it might be his last year of competition, he had two Skyway Conference Tournament Finals appearances, one as a doubles player and the other in singles.

That following summer, he had the privilege of teaching young players at Warren Township. This began a long career of teaching and coaching culminating in his current position at McHenry County College. Not only does he coach both the men’s and women’s team, but he is also a tenured instructor of Journalism. It is this combination that allows him to impact Student/Athletes (you notice which comes first) both in and out of the classroom.

Jim and his wife Kathy reside in Johnsburg with their children.
