McHenry County College (MCC) athletic director and head women's basketball coach Karen Wiley has over 30 years of teaching/coaching experience. In her first year at MCC, she was named Skyway Conference Newcomer Coach of the Year and led the women's basketball team to their best finish in six years with a 12-game turnaround from the previous season with wins over conference champion during the regular season and defeating the number-one regional seed Black Hawk East at the Region IV tournament.
No stranger to college athletics, Wiley was the athletic director at Kishwaukee College for 10 years and head women's basketball coach for 14 years. Her 2013-14 squad won the Region IV Tournament crown and advanced to the DII National Tournament. Her dynamic squad finished in eighth place at nationals, with a 30-7 overall. Coach Wiley’s 2012 squad also demonstrated their national-level talents, with an NJCAA National Tournament Final Four finish. At KC, Wiley was the first coach to ever reach 100 wins in the program and earned national recognition from the WBCA with her team’s GPA. In 2013 Wiley was one of three finalists for the WBCA Junior College National Coach of the year. In addition, she recruited and directed the advancement of 14 NJCAA Academic All-Americans, 11 NJCAA Basketball All-Americans, 9 WBCA All-Americans, 63 Academic All-Conference honorees, five 1,000 point scorers, 23 All-Region selections, and four NJCAA Region IV MVP’s.
"I know the season has been a success when players come back after two or three years when I hear they remain goal-oriented, have found their passion, and continue to pass along the fire I may have lit in them," Wiley said. "I am blessed to love what I do and do what I love." Wiley has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse and a Master of Science in Education from Northern Illinois University.
