McHenry County College (MCC) Women's Basketball player Alyssa Iverson is making headlines across northern Illinois.

The college sophomore was recently named the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Player of the Week for the third time this season. During the week of January 20-26, Iverson received the national honor of Division II Women's Basketball Player of the Week, and also earned the Region IV Division L award for the same time period. During that week, she averaged 32.0 points, 3.7 assists, and 3.0 rebounds over three games.

For the 2019-2020 season, Iverson leads the nation and region in scoring at 27.3 points, 4.3 assists, and 3.2 rebounds. She was also recently recognized as First Team ISCC All-Conference, Conference Player of the Year, All-Region IV Team, and NJCAA All-American Candidate.

"Alyssa Iverson is a steady presence on the floor as our point guard," said Karen Wiley, head coach of the women's basketball team and MCC's athletics director. "She has helped take a good program to a great program with her ability to create shots for herself and others, distribute the ball to teammates, and apply tight full-court defense on the opponent. She has quietly set records in an unassuming, humble way. I feel fortunate and blessed to be a part of her very bright future."

Iverson has already received a number of offers from DI and DII programs to continue her academic and playing career. The Scots Women's Basketball team is 24-4 overall and undefeated in conference games, making them Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) champions. The women recently won the Region IV Quarter Finals and will advance to the Region IV Semi-Finals on February 29 in Oglesby, IL at 6 p.m.
