Former tennis coach Don Biere, former basketball and softball player Jodie Kanaly, former tennis player Matt Miller and former women’s basketball coach Ken Ruud were the new inductees.
Don Biere
Don Biere was the women’s and men’s tennis head coach from 1994-2005. During his coaching tenure at MCC, the women’s tennis teams took conference titles in 2000 and 2001 and qualified for the NJCAA National Tournament in 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2005. The 2002 team finished ninth of the 29 teams competing at the national tournament. The men’s tennis team was extremely successful, winning the conference title in 1994, qualifying for the NJCAA National Tournament in 1999 and also earned NJCAA Academic Team Honors in 1994. Biere is currently retired and residing in Overland Park, Kansas with his wife.
Jodie Kanaly
Jodie Kanaly was a two-sport athlete playing on the women’s basketball and softball teams 1987-1989. The Marengo High School grad was named to the ISSC All-Conference team and All-Region IV Team in 1988-89 season. She also garnered conference MVP honors, scoring 33 points per game and 16 rebounds per game. Jodie was also named to the ISCC All-Conference Softball team and named as the MCC’s team MVP. Following MCC, she played at Mundelein College and attained her Bachelor of Science degree in physical education/health/driver’s education. She has also earned her Master’s degree in educational administration. Her coaching career includes 1998-2002 and 2009-2010 volleyball and basketball at Alden-Hebron High School and 1995-2001 softball at Crystal Lake South High School. She currently teaches at Alden-Hebron Elementary School and resides in Marengo with her family.
Matt Miller
Matt Miller was an outstanding men’s tennis player at MCC from 2011-13. The Prairie Ridge High School grad was the #1 singles player, competing to an undefeated regular season in 2012 and named ISCC Player of the Year. In 2013, he competed on an undefeated doubles team, winning the conference title and Region IV title. He also qualified for the NJCAA national tournament in 2013, playing in the #1 Doubles position and singles. He went on to Northern Illinois University to earn his CPA license and currently resides in Chicago.
Ken Ruud
Ken Ruud is inducted as the women’s basketball coach, which he served from 1997-2006. During his coaching tenure, his teams won seven consecutive ISCC conference titles 2000-2006 seasons and played in four Region IV Finals. He was also named as the ISCC Coach of the Year seven times. Many of his players also earned post-season honors including seven NJCAA All-Americans, one Kodak All-American and 1 NJCAA Hall of Fame. He remains active in the coaching world, training area players and consulting with our community’s high school girls’ basketball coaches. He keeps active as a private real estate attorney at law and resides in Marengo.
